Microsoft Windows XP Official Magazine, UK
Terragen has been on the cover disk of Microsoft Windows XP Official Magazine in the UK for several months now. The editors class it as an essential creativity application.

Snopes.com, March 28
An image supposingly showing sunset at the North Pole has been circulating via email with the suggestion that it's a real photo. The image is in fact a Terragen rendering, with the exception of the moon which was post processed in. Snopes is dedicating to proving or disproving "Urban Legends", and has a description of the image. You can view the image here.

.net, #147, March issue, UK
The March issue of .net magazine (available February 13th in the UK, March elsewhere) features Terragen and some of the plugins on the cover CD, as part of a graphics toolkit.

Plugs 'N Pixels, #4, electronic magazine, US
Terragen features in issue #4 of Plugs 'N Pixels, a free ezine, as part of a round up of landscape software. It includes an overview and tutorial of using Terragen and post processing rendered images.

Computer Arts, November issue, France
The November issue of the French magazine Computer Arts has an image by Luc Bianco on the cover, and an article about virtual landscape software which talks about Terragen. You can see a larger version of the image used here.

The Canvangelist, #17, electronic magazine, US
Issue 17 of The Canvangelist, an ezine for user's of ACD Systems' Canvas graphics application, features a review of Terragen for Macintosh.

Presentation by Kees Veenenbos at CONTACT, NASA Ames, California, US, March 12-14
Kees Veenenbos will be presenting some new stills and animations of Mars at the 2004 CONTACT conference, held at NASA Ames in the US.

Astronomy, April issue, US
The April issue of Astronomy, on sale in March, features an interview with and images by Kees Veenenbos, a prominent Terragen artist who specialises in Mars visualisations.

January 2004

La Recherche, special issue from January 15th to March 15th, France
The cover of a special issue of La Recherche, a French magazine, focusing on "God, science and religion" was done by Luc Bianco. This issue is on sale until March 15th.

National Geographic, January issue
The cover of January issue of the National Geographic magazine features an image of the Maraldi Crater on Mars by Kees Veenenbos. There is a double page spread of another image by Kees in the feature article on Mars. You can also see the images here.

Sky & Telescope, December issue, US
The December issue of Sky & Telescope magazine features an image by Kees Veenenbos on the cover, with additional images inside.

Focus, December issue, UK
This issue of Focus magazine features a rendering of Mars by Kees Veenenbos on the cover, and includes other rendererings and an interview with Kees about his work.

Star Observer, October issue, Germany
The October issue of the German magazine Star Observer uses some images by Luc Bianco, in an article which talks about what Mars would look like today if it still had water. This issue also features renderings by Kees Veenenbos.

Interview with Kees Veenenbos at Imagiverse
Imagiverse has an interview with Kees Veenenbos, a prominent Terragen artist who specialises in images of Mars.

Science, Vol. 301 No. 5641, September 26, US
Several renderings by Kees Veenenbos feature in the article "Putting Martian Science to the Test" in this issue of Science magazine. The renderings are of the Gusev and Hematite landing site of the MER2003 Rovers.

MacPeople, September 28, pages 60-61, Japan
Terragen Mac is featured in a two page article in the Japanese magazine, MacPeople, available on September 28th. It's also included on the cover disc. There is an introduction and a bit of a tutorial, along with links to some interesting galleries.

Star Observer, October issue, Germany
The August issue of the German magazine Star Observer features a rendering of Mars on the cover by Kees Veenenbos, as well as some additional images inside.

May 2003

Vocanson Multimedia, review, France
Olivier Cousinou has written a review of Terragen PC v0.8.68 for the French online magazine Vocanson Multimedia. Even those who don't read French may find the accompanying images interesting.

GEO, May Issue, Germany
This issue of the German magazine GEO, similar to National Geographic, features a large article on Mars and the next missions to the planet. GEO choose to use 7 Terragen images by Kees Veenenbos in the article, as well as one for the cover.

GEO also features a special showcase of Kees' work on their site.

Millimeter, April 2003 issue, US
This issue of Millimeter magazine has an article about virtual worlds, which provides a good summary of the available landscape related software. Terragen gets a pretty good mention and an image from Luc Bianco is included. You can read the article online.

Montagnes Magazines, N° 268, April issue, France
Sylvain Rondi provided the images for an April Fool's article in the French mountaineering magazine Montagnes Magazines. The article discussed a "hidden" mountain range in the Alps, used by the US during the Cold War. The article, supported by Sylvain's renderings, promoted much inquiry including requests for maps of the area ! You can see a scanned copy of the article here.

Hors-Série Studio Multimédia Nº 13, spécial 3D, April issue, France
Luc Bianco has written two articles which feature in Hors-Série Studio Multimédia Nº 13. One article is a test of the latest Terragen release ( v0.8.68 ) and the other is a "how to" article describing the creation of this image. Terragen v0.8.68 also features on the cover CD. The magazine will be in stores from the 22nd of April to the 21st of June.

Paysages 3D, Editions Eyrolles, book, France
French publisher Editions Eyrolles has just published a new book as part of their "The Designer's Collection" series called "Paysages 3D", about 3D landscapes. The book features nine workshops where nine different artists describe how they created their image. There are three Terragen landscapes in the book, by the talented artists Luc Bianco, Olivier Cousinou and Jean-marc Négroni.

Chris Short used Terragen in his illustration for the cover of this issue of Newsweek magazine. You can also see the image here.

Macuarium, website, Spain
Macuarium, the largest website for Spanish Mac users, has published the an interview ( slightly dated ), in two parts, with Jo Meder, Planetside's Mac developer. The interview can be read in both Spanish and English.

Ron Miller used Terragen in the cover illustration of Weekly Reader, a weekly magazine for elementary school students.

Computer Graphics World, November issue ( published October ), pages 52-53, Japan
This issue of the Japanese edition of Computer Graphics World features an article by Yoshiki Shimakawa. The article talks about the features of TG v0.8.44 in some detail, with particular emphasis on the import and export of geographic data. It discusses terrain import and export plugins ( such as For Export Only ), as well as standalone programs. It also talks about use with 3D software such as Lightwave.

Personal Computer World, November issue ( published October ), pages 204-205, UK
This issue of Personal Computer World features an article by PCW's 3D columnist, Benjamin Woolley, which covers the features of TG v0.8.44 in some detail.

Coelum, September issue, page 54, Italy
A full page image of Mars by Mario Rossi is featured in the Italian astronomy magazine Coelum. If you follow the previous link, the image is the second one below the table of contents. You can also see the image in the wallpaper section of Mario's site, Space Graphics. Although the actual image is rendered in Lightwave, the surface map was rendered in Terragen from MOLA data of Mars. The image shows what Mars might look like if it were flooded, and used Sean O'Malley's SOPack water transparency plugin. A wallpaper version of the image, as well as the surface map and other items are available from Mario's site.

L'Ordinateur Individuel, September issue, pages 70-73, France
Works by Olivier Cousinou, Philippe Jacqueroux and Christophe Périnaud are featured in the the French magazine L'Ordinateur Individuel. The article is about landscape generators and talks about Terragen, as well as MojoWorld and Bryce.

Presentation by Kees Veenenbos at EMC2, Rotterdam, the Netherlands, September 27
Kees Veenenbos will be giving a presentation at EMC2, the Second European Mars Society Convention, at Rotterdam in the Netherlands. His presentation is entitled "Visualizations of ancient and today's Martian landscapes of Mars in renderings and animations, made with MOLA digital elevation data". You can view the program for the Convention here.

Personal Computer World, September issue ( published August ) UK
This issue features a follow up to the article in the June issue of PCW, and corrects some of the points in the original article. It also talks a bit the changes in v0.8.44. An image by Scott Hunter accompanies the article, which is a rendering of Mount Ama Dablam in Nepal. You can see the image at Scott's site as well.

The French edition of Photoshop Newsletter, which is a magazine published online, has an article about Terragen.

May 2002

Science Magazine, Vol. 296 No. 5570, pages 1006-1008, May 10
Kees Veenenbos rendered a number of images of Mars for an article in Science Magazine called "Safety Versus Science on Next Trip to Mars". He rendered overhead views of the projected landing sites for the Mars Exploration Rovers 2003, NASA's next mission to Mars. Kees used newly released MOLA ( Mars Orbital Lasa Altimeter ) DEM data for the terrains, which he converted to Terragen's terrain format using 3DEM. You can view the article at the Science Magazine website ( free registration required ), or you can see the images on Kees' site.

Personal Computer World, June issue ( published May ) UK
This issue features an article ( somewhat misinformed ) about Terragen by PCW's 3D columnist. Fraser Smith has an image accompanying the article.

April 2002

ArtPress, France
ArtPress is a French contemporary art magazine. The April special issue, called "Fictions d'artistes - autobiographies, récits, supercheries", features a image rendered in Terragen on the cover. The artist is Joan Fontcuberta, and the image is called "Orogenèse de la sécurité - carte Visa".

Science Fiction Weekly, Issue 261, April 22
Steve Hayhurst is the featured artist for Issue 261 of Science Fiction Weekly, the online newsletter affiliated with the Sci Fi cable channel. You can see the image here. Although the image is rendered in Inspire3D, the terrain was generated in Terragen and exported as a LightWave object, a good example of Terragen interacting with other 3D applications.

March 2002

18th March and 19th March
Kees Veenenbos and Adrian Lark's work doing visualisation of Mars using MOLA ( Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter ) data and Terragen is being featured in the German scientific program Nano. They're interviewed and show images and animations created with Terragen, Campath and 3DEM. The show is being broadcast on WDR ( West Deutsche Rundfunk ) on SAT3 at 18:30 on Monday the 18th and on WDR on Tuesday at 17:00.
If you can't see the shows, you can visit the Nano website for some information ( in German ).

3DWorld magazine, Issue 23, UK
Fraser Smith has a great tutorial on working with Terragen's atmosphere settings. Terragen also features on the cover disc, along with the files used in the tutorial.
