Tutorial planning Area
In this section we want to accumulate and sort proposed turorials. These fall into several categories: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Specific. with the following definitions:
Beginner
- Assuming the user has only just begun to use Terragen2 and is learning basic manipulations and organisation of graph nodes and concepts
Intermediate
- Aimed at users who have no difficulty in understanding the tutorials defined as Beginner. Who also has control over all aspects of the UI and knowledge of most but not all nodes.
Advanced
- For users who have no difficulty with the contents of the Intermediate tutorials. Tutorials that use corner cases or rely heavily on such aspects as Blue nodes or prior understanding of intermediate level aspects of TG2.
Specific
- Where the tutorial assumes intermediate knowledge and is aimed at deconstructing a specific image or Animation.
The intention would be to organise and sort many desired tutorials, and then for individuals to create pages that match these with the tutorial linked or directly on those pages. Supporting files must be made available in the file sharing part of Planetside forums.
Contents
Beginner[edit]
Introductory scene - Desert
- Shows simple scene constructing eroded desert canyon
- Concentrate on colours, PF scales, add strata node, basic sky (cirrus)
- is it too soon for strata node
Introductory scene - Moons in the sky
- Shows two moons and sun position over basic terrain
Introductory scene - Sky at sunset
- Shows sun angle and atmosphere for sunset
Rocks on Rocks
- Adding detail using childnodes to rocks
Rocks and sand on a beach
- Adding detail using surface layers
Waterlines
- Using colour Adjust shader to darken wet sand above water
- intermediate?
Intermediate[edit]
Painted shader introduction
- Show Masking using the painted shader
Painted shader and camera projection
- use camera projection and the painted shader to show an image projected onto terrain
Advanced[edit]
Specific[edit]
A single object or device in the node network which generates or modifies data and may accept input data or create output data or both, depending on its function. Nodes usually have their own settings which control the data they create or how they modify data passing through them. Nodes are connected together in a network to perform work in a network-based user interface. In Terragen 2 nodes are connected together to describe a scene.
A shader is a program or set of instructions used in 3D computer graphics to determine the final surface properties of an object or image. This can include arbitrarily complex descriptions of light absorption and diffusion, texture mapping, reflection and refraction, shadowing, surface displacement and post-processing effects. In Terragen 2 shaders are used to construct and modify almost every element of a scene.
