spirals from functions?

is there a way of creating a spiral form either with functions or otherwise?
I did a quick search, but did not see much?

cheers domdib I did not see this one (recently anyway!)
my head hurts as soon as I see cosine/sine/tangent etc.....
But I will look at this to see what I can cook up!

I've not had a go at one of these functions yet, but essentially a spiral is defined as a circle (cosine and sine) with an expanding radius. The link above is describing a circle over it's altitude to make a corkscrew. If you looked at the above forms in plan, you'll see a circle.
