Hi there folks, if you have a flickr account, what do you think of the image size restrictions in the new preview?
I see that images I have uploaded at 1280x720 px are now only viewable at 640x360??
:(

Huh? I've been locked out of my Flickr for ages, I get the odd mail from them but I can't get through the nightmare of secret questions, which I've forgotten, too, and alternate email nonsense to reset my password.

I can still see everyone's images at the correct sizes by clicking the 'all sizes' magnifying glass button above each picture, I'm only viewing them while not signed in so, no idea why you can't see your own images at their original sizes.

When the lightbox screen comes up, click on the graduated squares in the upper right. This will take you to the image sizes area. Here you can view the full size.

They changed the URL info at the bottom of the screen. It is no longer there. I started using the address bar now.

I think you may need a 'Pro' account.

I think Flickr is one of the most shockingly bad gallery sites around and I'm constantly amazed at its sustained popularity. As a community system I think it's ok, really those features I'm just not that concerned with beyond the basics. For commenting on pictures it's fine, the option of highlighting areas in the photo was I think pioneered or at least popularized there, and that's pretty nice. But as a *picture viewing website* it is miserable. Absolutely miserable. It involves so many clicks and seems to do its best to keep the viewer from seeing the image at its best, it's really quite deviously designed. It seems like it almost has to be intentionally designed that way, but it's certainly not in service of the viewer. I don't know who it's in service of...

Compare Flickr to something like SmugMug (yes, I know, not free) and you'll see why I think Flickr "galleries" are so ridiculous: http://cmac.smugmug.com/gallery/5363890_2awbk#334290495_zqEkV

smugmug looks very nice indeed, that one is bookmarked!

thanks Oshyan, smugmug looks really nice, but alas not free, I might check out JAlbum (http://jalbum.net/)
I must also get round to creating my own site at google sites or somewhere.....

Great looking site Oshyan. I may have to jump.

JAlbum looks pretty nice. Basic but certainly more appealing than Flickr. I do wish SmugMug had a limited free version, then I could recommend it to everyone. For now it's just a great example of how to do a gallery right, but there are other options that *are* free and are at least better than Flickr. I'm not saying other sites are amazing either, I'm just shocked how bad Flickr is, and yet how popular...

Flickr is quite old now. Maybe the revamp will make things better. When I first saw Flickr, they were all photos, no art. But it may be good to change...
