Is there a tutorial out there for planet creation?  In addition to that, how can I have it ignore lighting and be ambient lit only (for nighttime purposes).

Thanks!

To create a moon, simply add another planet object to the scene.  Position it a ways away from the main planet and then try to find it in your field of view.

I'm also righting a tutorial on how to make nice orbital renders.

The world is round... so you have to use spherical projection.

I've managed to create my moon and get it rendering ok during the day, but how do I get it to act as a light source at night?  I placed it with the same heading/elevation as my light but sometimes it renders behind the light which is kinda weird.  Can I bump up it's ambient lighting and have it not cast shadows?

Go into the moon's internal network, and pump up the luminosity in the default shader.

Haha I had forgotten about that tutorial you are working on, any chance on a time estimate for its completion?

If you want more control over the light, you can add a lightsource with a large strength and put it between your world and the new planet (moon).

MeltingIce, I'm hoping this wekend but don't hold your breath I have it pretty much sorted out its just a matter of compiling it all into an easy to follow step by step guide.

oh that would be great, my orbital renders almost always look really naff.
