I fixed this up yesterday to test my wild cow (which Marc was so kind to check out, although this is still with my simple one sided texturing on the animal, but you don't see it from this distance). I kind of liked the soils, so I'd thought to show it.
Some bushes, some fake grass from tiny fake stones, some fractals to color vary, some more fake stones, and a simple vertical 20x100 strip of color bands projected horizontally onto the higher ground for some subtle banding. I should change the grass objects in the front though, they're not nice. And one cow is eaten by a rock.
The pop of cows is varied (only subtly) by another image map.
