Thought I'd start a new thread for this.

I'm continuing the work started in one of the images from my previous thread.
I'm basically studying Zbrush and terragen integration, (and having a bit of fun in the mean time)

So far, I've refined the sculpt a little, and added a few basic plants from maya.
The next stage will be to start deriving specific masks from zbrush to develop the terragen texturing and displacement.
Then, hopefully I'll repopulate the scene with better plant life.

Nice textures and creepers. I would suggest adding a little more to that sky. It looks kind of grainy.
Heard of computer graphics? CG? Terragen 2, the landscape generating program, also known as TG, a whole cool way to create realistic CG - with TG.

Dune

Very nice result. The lighting is superb, as are your rocks. Did you populate the plants onto the rock object in TG2 (I'm still a bit in the mist about how to go about that), or was that done in ZBrush? You could also use the Ivy Generator to grow veggies onto the rock, by the way, but you might know that.

inkydigit

superb results...some smoke coming from the cave next?

Thanks for the replies.

The plants are populated in maya. Nice tip about the ivy generator Dune, thanks.
Cheers Inky, there could be some more environmental effects to come, nice suggestion.
Thanks jbest, the grain was a post effect test, maybe it's a tad too much.

Hopefully going to progress this over the weekend, as we have a nice long one with a bank holiday.

Nice work Chris and your demo reel is really good - Is it TG and ZB?

cyphyr

Excelent work on the ZBrush terrain, definately a useful adition to the TG armory. Ivy generator is one of thoes little programs that can be "oh so usefull" at the right time, it dont do much but what it dose do is excells at.
Looking forward to the results :)

Cheers airflamesred .

My reel is a broad range of disciplines, plenty of maya, Terragen, zbrush and others, plus 2d photoshop, Nuke etc.

Thanks Richard.

That's the point of this really, (extending the armoury) I'm always looking at how we can enhance our pipeline and speed up results.
We have such short deadlines and small budgets, that any improvements we find can make a huge difference to what we can achieve.

Very promising start --- I am looking forward to see the next stages ...

Dune

I took a look at your site for the first time, Chris. Very impressive, and the reel gives me a really melancholic feeling! Very well thought out, and the execution is way beyond my capabilities. I'll take your posts/advice very serious from now on.

Henry Blewer

I agree with Dune. Very nice work. I wish you had  panned over the dinosaurs at the end of the demo reel. The snow flakes were a great touch.

Thanks for the feedback and encouragement.

Oh and thanks for the kind comments on my reel, glad you enjoyed it. I haven't actually had that much response to it.
Sent it out a few times, but most companies don't seem to have the time to feedback these days.

Anyway, here's the latest update.

Bit more sculpting, a few masks and ivy (via ivy generator).
Been a lot of trail and error with this shot, and have learned a lot from it.

Thanks for looking

I like the improvements in the details and the integration of the ivy.

inkydigit

very nice, great details indeed!

Henry Blewer

Your work is making me think more about how I set up and texture terrains. Thanks.
I like this new image better than the first. Mostly the light coming from inside the cave,
