Pen input settings

I've recently acquired a "pen" input device, a "wacom bamboo one". I tried these before for other applications and I find them difficult to use but they do seem to be an industry "must have" tool nowadays so I should try to "get my hand in". Also it may prove a useful addition to the laptop.
Has anyone had any success with setting up the input settings for a pen device and do you have any specific recommendations?
Also a feature request, could we find some way of sharing/saving the User Settings and Preferences for use with other users.

Got to say I've never got on with them either, it's the disconnect of actually drawing on what I'm looking at. But I think the main reason for never spending much time with them, is that those that do, get roped into rotoscoping, and I'd rather stick pencils in my eyes.

Sorry, not much help am I.  

I do like the idea of painting on 3d models with them though.

Yes I too could not get on with the one I had and for the reason hetzen has just pointed out. I seemed to be just as acurate on mesh painting with the laptop. Back in the box it went.

I've used tablets for everything since NT4 and I pretty much just leave the defaults alone till I see what the new one does and then adjust the pressure and click speed etc. from within Windows till it's comfortable.
then you can mess about in TG2's preferences if you want as well...forget what I did but my Bamboo works a charm.
It's great for Paint shader stuff and in PhotoShop it's a 3rd arm...from a long satisfied user

i for one would not like to be without a tablet,definitely.It's great for painting
and sculpting and i got used to it within a few days.
As for the input settings i'm not sure what exactly you are refering to,but in
general the only problem i had were the pen tablet settings of the OS (vista
in my case), had to switch off some.
You can find some useful information on conceptart,they have a wacom related
subforum there.

I'm used in intuos series (from intuos to intuos 4) and are invaluable for painting and sculpting work. I'm not very experienced in terragen but the these are the most important thing I'd check for general use in graphic apllications:

- if bamboo has modifier keys set them according to your preferences so you can pan, tilt, zoom, etc avoiding the use of keyboard's keys
- use it in 'pen mode' not in 'mouse mode'. It can seem strange initially but in this way the position of the pen on the tablet corresponds to the position of the arrow on the screen. Try to paint in mouse mode if you can 
- as soon as you have enough confidence try to set the pressure sensibility to the level you're confortable with. To me the standard mode is too hard but it's a personal choice

Good choice of hardware, Richard. I've used Wacom's Intuos 3 since a couple of years and can't do without anymore. Very accurate painting is possible, as well as clicking etc. Keep it between my finger like a pen when typing, very handy. And no more RSI!
