Bit of a slow day at work so what better to do than crank out a messy little canyon. Small version is attached, but if you want to see the full details at 2550 x 2550 you can find it here: http://www.archer-designs.com/zp/index.php?album=digital-art%2Fterragen-2&image=bright-canyon-full.jpg

Second version can be found here: http://www.archer-designs.com/zp/index.php?album=digital-art%2Fterragen-2&image=bright-canyon-v2-full.jpg

Kind of stylistic ... I like it Ryan  :)

There are parts of this image that are breathtaking - like the lighting on the upper left. There's one or two rough edges too, but nothing that couldn't be fixed by a bit of postwork or just shifting the POV slightly. The only stylistic decision I don't quite "get" are the pronounced horizontal strata. But all in all, super stuff!

excellent canyon, love the lighting and mood, surface textures and colours are great too!

Very nice!
Personally i'd like to see some point of interest in the mist/haze,though.
Just a little something to get my fantasy going.

Wow, just wow. I could really imagine this render in some SciFi movie. Great work!
Mouthwash? We don't need no stinking mouthwash!! [MI2]

Nice job Ryan. What atmosphere settings do you use to get that overexposed, soft look in the sky?

Thanks guys, I am going to make some adjustments and rerender a few times.  The render times are really nice around 30 minutes at 1200X1200 so it is easy to make changes.

Paul:  The atmosphere node is at default as far as I remember, but the camera exposure is set to 16!  There are more canyon walls in the background but the super high exposure burns everything out.  There is no cloud layers or mist/fog or anything like that, everything is handled by the light.

Interesting good to know!

Woaaah, AMAZING render, Ryan. I love this scene! Everything in it.

Thanks Frank, here's a second version.

Smoothed out the displacements and made them more natural, added a few more surface colours and textures and added a spaceship (from sharecg.com - rockape)

I don't know why but the second version reminds me of something from Avatar. It looks great.
Heard of computer graphics? CG? Terragen 2, the landscape generating program, also known as TG, a whole cool way to create realistic CG - with TG.

Stunning work Ryan. This is one on the verge of being a 'slot canyon'. I know you have seen these in photographs. Bringing the right and left sides closer together with the sun repositioned more to the right so that maybe you could get rays beaming through to slightly light up the interior of the canyon walls could be quite dramatic.

Great work by you working your magic with light.
