The surface was like that when rendered. It's actually white snow but the lighting threw it off
Starfield background by NASA's 3D resource gallery.
Postworked in Photoshop CS5.

If you wanted the snow to still appear you could just add another sun, not in view, with a lower strength.
Heard of computer graphics? CG? Terragen 2, the landscape generating program, also known as TG, a whole cool way to create realistic CG - with TG.
