"Open Recent" problem

This is an odd one. The "Open Recent" window is always empty, regardless of what project had been worked on or saved earlier.

Mine works, I have noticed before that if you ever do a render that crashes that often the recent work will reset itself then.

i've noticed this happens when i open another instance of TG2.

That's true...but my "Open Recent" list is always empty, whether TG2 has crashed or not.

I've noticed it only shows files I've opened or saved after starting TG2. Once I restart it the menu is empty. ???
They just issued a tornado warning and said to stay away from windows. Does that mean I can't use my computer?

dandelO

If TG crashes, mine becomes empty. If I open a second instance of TG, it goes empty too.

Otherwise, no problems.

I think that's what's been happening to me, too. It's pretty inconvenient to have to look up the previous session's files every time I restart TG2 for the day.

Hmm.. I think I have noticed that before too, but only sometimes.  Like right now I haven't used Terragen since reboot, yet the files are there in most recent.

Hi,

There is a reason which I won't go into why the recently opened items are not available if you use multiple instances of TG2, but they aren't. It's related to the reason they don't show up after a crash. The recently opened items are read when TG2 starts and then written back out when it quits. If it crashes this doesn't happen so they aren't there to be read next time you start.

The reason for this behaviour is essentially robustness. I didn't feel the recently opened items were important enough to go to extra lengths to preserve them robustly in the case of a crash (which shouldn't be happening anyway), which might happen while a file is being loaded for example. I feel they're a convenience and not particularly important. However I see that other people feel differently so I will look into making them remain across crashes and multiple instances.

I've never experienced the recently opened items not being preserved across sessions when multiple instances aren't used and there hasn't been a crash. One situation you need to keep in mind is that if you move a file (should only be a problem on Windows) or have it on a removable drive which is not mounted when TG2 starts up then that file won't appear in the menu.

Regards,

Jo

So far, TG2 doesn't remember the files I worked on between sessions whether the program has crashed or not. Neither have I had multiple instances running at any time.

This really isn't a major thing...more like a minor nuisance.

Last night, as a test, I created a small landscape, saved it and closed the program. When I opened TG2 this morning, the "Open Recent" list was empty.

If you are running a system optimizing program, like CCcleaner, you may be having this erased. Advanced System Care was doing this, until I made an exception rule.

I have developed a problem with my "Open Recent" command. When I use it, the list is current. Selecting an item does nothing but close the dialogue box. I don't know when this started, but the only changes I've made is to Upgrade Painter 8 to Painter 8.01. Has anyone else experienced this?

Ivory, I haven't experienced that problem and I'm running both x32 and x64 versions 2.3.20.1.  I did notice they both share the same preferences file, but all the recent files open fine in both versions.

Did you install Terragen 2 on a different partition than the C: drive? It should not make a difference, just speculating.

Are you using system optimizing software? Some of these clear the recent history for programs as well as wordpad/notepad and browsers.
