Hi, all -

I've been messing with the ivy generator and I can't get the leaf textures right. I don't have a program to convert the leaf images to .tiff with, and I can't get the alpha right with either .bmp's or .png's. The majority of the leaf is ok, but there are white splotches at the edges, as if the alpha blending isn't being handled properly. I saw in the main discussion thread that people were having better luck if they converted the images to 32-bit .tiffs (although I don't understand why image format would be such an issue - it's not as if .png is way new). Would someone who has done the conversion be kind enough to upload the images? It may turn out that my ivy has some other problem too, but I'd like to eliminate this possiblity.

Thanks...

;D

hey,

you can use 'paint' to convert to .tiff, when you're a windows-user. another great, free graphics programm is the gimp http://www.gimp.org/
perfection is not when there's nothing more to add, it's reached when nothing more can be left out

Well, that's my second D'oh! of the day. I didn't realize Paint did .tiff conversions.

Never mind....

(Thanks, C@P).

PNG isn't a particularly new format but it appears that TG2's support of it is not currently very robust. You'll run into these kinds of issues with any pre-release of course. Just keep in mind that these are exactly the kind of issues that will be resolved for the final version and discovering these problems is a big part of why we released the Technology Preview.

My personal favorite graphics format utility is the free XnView. It can handle conversion to and from literally 100's of formats.

Crap... well, Paint does export them as 32 bit tiffs, but the alpha information seems to have been lost - the alpha plane is all white.

Oshyan - it's not a big deal; I mean, if it's just a matter of getting them converted properly it's not a big issue. I'll check out XnView - I'm really not a fan of Gimp.

you should try irfanview its freeware small download it can open and save almost anything (including .tiff and .png)
plus its real easy to use. http://www.irfanview.com/  ;D
Hmmm... wonder what this button does....

As I suspected, image format is NOT an issue with the ivy generator. The .png's distributed with the generator work perfectly well in TG2. You need to specify the png as the opacity image and check the 'use alpha channel' checkbox. That's it. I have no idea who started this rumor that you need to use .tiff's, but it's nonsense.
