Hiya

Sorry if I have missed the link but is there a tutorial to create rivers in TG2 ,

Will

The world is round... so you have to use spherical projection.

Cub

I have seen that tutorial but having read it several times just couldnt follow it

River Tutorial...

Create or load a heightfield.

*No problem*

Use the river modifier to create a river.

** I can never see the river **

I recomend to save a .ter file now of the heightfield with the river, but also you need to keep another one without it.

* do you having created the heightfield and river and saving , delete the river and save again ? *

Now you can replace the terrain with the river carved with the .ter to avoid the "river creator" bug.

sorry but what are the steps ?

Now you should load the .ter that has no river in it.
Create a lake.

if i load the .ter wont that overwrite what has been done ?

The steps are too unclear for my newbie mind .... are there any more basic tutorials ??

Plug the heightfield shader with the uncarved .ter to the water.
The water should get the shape of the terrain.
Now you can go to the heightfield shader and in the displacement tab, lower the height mutiplier at will.
Now you should get the .ter with the river and the water following the shape of the terrain, but a little lower.
Consider that the water can take shapes that are unnatural but you can play with the second heightfield to achieve a nice result.

Yes, I'm very excited about WM - I see it as an ideal partner for TG2. :)

Although the river heightfield operator does sort of work, I would avoid it at this point unless you have a whole lot of patience. These functions will be improved in the future.

I posted this in the file sharing section.
http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=1164.0.

It uses a similar method to the tutorial but requires an image map to define the area you want for water. *IF* you have an easy way of getting a river "map" this file is quite simple to use.

the easiest way I have found to make masks is here, http://www.me-dem.org/content/view/53/33/, at the ME-DEM Project forums. To generate masks from a .ter created with Terragen you would need , at the minimum, to have LandSerf, SagaGis, (both free) and a Photoshop type program. Links are all in the tutorial for LandSerf and SagaGis. Be warned the tutorial is over 90 pages . SeerBlue

Hehe, yes that's for *realistic* river flows - as in semi-geologically accurate. If you just want to put down a river where you want it to go I'd suggest creating a mask in an image editor.
