I'm stuck!

Hi there, I'm very new to TG and have been playing with the demo. I can't for the life of me figure out how to open a saved file without the terrain disappearing.

I know it must be simple. Can anyone help out.

Are you using heightfields? You need to re-generate them to get them to appear again

Ahh yes I am, ok so if I generate it again - will it look different to last time I generated.

No it won't be different as long as you haven't changed the seed-value in the heightfield-generate.
The seed-value is a number which is used as input for the terrain-generation algorithm where the terrain is based on.
Consequentially, a different number leads to a different terrain.

I'm learning...slowly! I absolutely love the images this program generates and I so want to get some good results out of it, but I'm finding it hard.

There are many tgd files (landscapes) ready to render in the file sharing area. I try to keep my landscapes simple, because my computer is so out of date. They may help you if you would like to dissect them.

As you are new to TG2, I'd try the file section to see what you can do with the limitations on the demo, like others have suggested. This way, you'll know what it can do and give you some hope for what it could do. It's really a lot of fun and this is a very helpful community.

I must say I've lurked here for a bit and everyone is very friendly (not always the case in these scenarios). I'm trying to follow the tutorial BenMcDuff mountain which seems really good so far, although I got completely lost when my kids came home from school - start again!!

I'm a web designer by trade with my previous experience in print design. The closest I got to 3D was Bryce and a play with 3DS Max, but Terragen absolutely annihilates Bryce in quality. I'm committed to learning it (and hopefully other 3D apps) and will purchase when funds permit.

Ask any questions that come up. Everyone tries to be helpful. Most of us can answer many questions. We also remember past posts and can find them and add a link to them.
