HI all, I have been plyaing with a DEM of the grand canyon, and this is what I've got so far. Thanks to Tangled-Universe for showing me how stratas work!

These both look good. I prefer the first with the clouds in the canyon. I think the shaded sides of the canyon may be too dark. There are a few ways to fix this.

The easiest would be to adjust the ambient light of the atmosphere. This updates quicker in the preview window, so the tweaking is easier.

Adjusting the gamma and contrast of the render settings can also may a huge difference. To really see what is happening, small renders need to be done.

You can also adjust the exposure of the camera. This updates quickly in the preview window. It can easily whiten out the colors. If I think it will be needed, I try to do adjust the exposure before I start coloring the scene.

Very nice so far! While I agree that the shadows might be a tad too dark the rest of the lighting and the coloring are both excellent!

the lighting looks good, just needs some populations, trees, or vegetation.  :)

well done renders.
WARNING! WIZARDS! DO NOT PREDICT THE BEHAVIOR OF OTTERS UNLESS YOU OBEY BIG HAPPY TOES.

Thank you all for your comments! I agree that the dark areas are somewhat problematic, so I have decided to change the camera angle, and make the fog more uneven. I hope you like the result :)

Try adding some of Walli's pines. They are in a plant pack available on the Planetside site.

Looks good. The strata is very good. Keep going!
