Grass Clump Problem

I recently purchased a new computer: HP Pavilion a1740n, 4 GB ram, 320 GB HD, and it runs Vista. The problem is that when I try to populate a grass clump population my computer locks up. I have tried a simple 1000 X 1000 area up to 21000 X 21000, Object spacing from 10 up to 75, Blade size from 1 to 9. I'm nor sure if this is normal, but my grass blade are white when I first populate them so I blend them with an image map. No matter what size of area, blade size, or spacing I have, as soon as I blend with the Image map I can kiss it goodbye.
Is this a glitch? Or am I not doing something right?
I used to render with T2 on my Dell. It ran on XP and I never had a problem with populations on it ( thats a lie ;) I never had problems with blending grass clumps with an image map).
If I am doing something simple wrong, tell me. I'm not to set in my ways to change.

Thanks for the help.

Are you using "through camera" projection for your image map?

Is that the default? If so..yes. If not, no.

I just tried it again. I can not even populate with an image map. I did check, and it is set on through camera.
I'm really not trying anything to fancy. The first thing I'm doing is adding the object, zooming in to it, setting the size, quality, and pressing populate.
I have not had any other problems with any Populations besides the grass clump.

For troubleshooting purposes, try using PlanY or another projection type.

Thanks Oshyan. Sorry to be a pain.

You're not being a pain, just trying to get things to work. Perfectly reasonable. :)

We're aware of some problems with "through camera" projection with the Image Map shader so that's why I mention it.

You know, I kind of feel like I'm seriously lacking in "Paying Attention" or  something. I got to looking around and under the grass clump there is a nice tab that says "Surface Shader". Its amazing how easily that works.
It populated just like it was designed to do. I guess I should take the blinders off.

Thanks for the help Oshyan.
