Hi,
I thought I would try something different. I made this in 3DS MAX 2010. I kinda knocked it out pretty quick.
Now that I figured it out I'll make one that looks better where the cut is on the top. Make it splintered.
Anyway, this might be cool to add to a scene.
Maybe I should make a stump pack of about 5 stumps in various configurations. Let me know if you are interested.

NOTE:
If you try this as a population it explodes the branches. I forgot to use the attach element command in MAX.

Good texturing. These could be used to surround Isengard.

What might be interesting as a follow up project to this one is do a rougher break where a tree has snapped off due to high winds or similar phenomena that might include the stump and the upper part of the tree as well. Some thing to think over, maybe?
Regards to you.

Much appreciated work, thanks, and an interesting idea. May I make one comment though? I'd make the branches a little less straight-angled, the bends a little more rounded.

Yes, more stumps, some that look cut vs some that look torn (fell trees, for example) would be good.

Marc, do you still have this on your site? This link no longer works.
