Did you try changing the cables as Kadri mentioned?  I had a second Sata driver that would suddenly "lock-up" -- the activity light was always on.  I eventually found I had to re-seat the Sata cable and it would be fine.

This kept happening after a couple weeks and I finally swapped the cable out and haven't seen the problem for over a year.

When it failed, chkdsk would usually report a problem, but not always.

actually i already converted to mac, once, but i converted back to PC again.

Why? Just curious , zaai999!

I had a iMac G4, 800mhz, 512mb ddr ram, Nvidia geforce MX 32mb of vram.

i switched back to PC for several reasons. but it mainly it was a hardware/cost issue.

I liked using Mac OSX, but i did'nt like their computers/hardware, or the way they were making some of their computers.
-fewer GPU choices (one or two Nvidia/ATi cards)
-hardly any workstation (quadro/fireGL) GPUs supported
-no DirectX

after a couple years of using the iMac i felt it was a little too intragrated for me, or for future system i would buy.
the mac workstation towers were too expensive for me too.

Thanks , Zaai999 :)
It is good to hear opinions from users who know 2 sides!

Perhaps also consider using raid1 for your main disk drive. As the sizes get bigger the MTBFs are dropping a bit. I find that raid1 (disk duplication) gives me some more fault tolerance and is supported in bios of many new motherboards. Extra disk cost is quite reasonable even if its a TB.

Sorry to hijack, but, I had seen (long while ago now) a website selling custom macs. from what I remember they were OSX with mac architecture, but really pimped out. Sorry cant remember the details, basically a mac brain with better guts. Anyone have an idea what site Im referring too? I have tried to find it but with no luck. Should have thought better of it when a friend showed me the site.
And I believe they where still covered under applecare.

I just hate windows so much, its like microsoft just does not give a shit.

hmmm...

i wonder if apple forced them to go out of business.
???
i wonder if it was actual mac manufactured hardware or or PC brand componets, i.e. evga, asus, gigabyte...
i recall something that was a a little less-legit, there was a guy selling modified PC based Nvidia cards for the Mac OSX architecture

i'd like to fully switch to a linux distro. but spme of the 3d/graphical programs i use are mainly for PC (revit, maya, 3DS Max, TG2, lightwave3d etc, etc.)

my current computer is still ok, sometime next week i should have a superfast sandy bridge system ;)
