making roads for games

I used terragen 0.91 years ago to make game terrain. I am now back using it and want to use 2.0. I used Terragen to make a greyscale heightmap in png or bmp format then used that to deform a grid that I had in blender. It worked just fine. But the thing I never learned how to do was how to put level roads on that terrain. By level roads I mean not roads that are painted onto the texture but actual faces that are coplanar along their length and follow the curvature of the terrain around them. Can somone please help me do this
Thanks

I believe there was a railroad project a while back that did something like that, and another for paved roads.
their basic methods for making a flat path should work.
Hmmm... wonder what this button does....

Do you have a url for those?

Tghank you but those are more for fomulaicly creating roads on a static render. I was more thinking of somehow "drawing in" the road onto to terrian or over it and having those faces appear flat and follow the terrain curvature when I import it into blender.

Geocontrol has something called a vector tool, which allows you to paint a road directly onto a terrain, it will flatten the area of the road and also gives you some falloff controls for the side banking etc. http://www.geocontrol2.com/e_geocontrol_projected.htm

Might be worth a look, creating the type of road you need in TG is a difficult process, only a very few of us have managed it and the work involved is probably more hassle than it's worth if you just want to make it for a game.

Roads are actually quite hard to create. Geocontrol is the best so far, but even then it's not an easy task. In GC you have to draw the spline up/down the relief depending on the elevated direction of the road.

I've managed to create a flat road along it's width that cuts/rises through terrain in TG, but it only works along a known direction. It would be very cool to apply this method along a drawn spline.

Thanks guys but I cannot afford GeoControl or anything right now. But I will keep it on my wishlist for the future.

I think World machiene 2 might do this as well.
