not posted anything for a while here, anyway I have been trying to get a success of this type of scene for a while, it looks like a view not far from me.

Quality 1  AA4, GI detail and quality on 3, GI surface checked, Render time 30  minutes on 8 cores, 64 bit. So what does supersampling mean then?

Dune

Very fine and convincing render. Makes me want to have a better machine  >:(

Tangled-Universe

30 minutes? Wow man, very nice :)

You should animate this with these rendertimes!
Do you have animation? If so, in a next reply I could give you a list of settings which is generally a good start for rendering animations, so then you can check out what the rendertimes are per frame to see if it's interesting to try.
(for instance, disabling GI surface detail already cuts rendertime with at least 35% I think, then reducing GI rel. det. from 3 to 2 or 1 reduces rendertime even more...you would only need to increase GI sample quality then).

Here's Matt on the supersampling:

no animation, very tempting tho

Redwolf

will I have to rebuy the whole package that has animation, or is animation an add on to the package i have now that is TG2 deep

dandelO

I'll say it again, Ade. Lovely! Great soft feeling AA on the trees and I agree, would be a nice animation.
I already ran a breeze-test through your trees last night, works a treat. If you need the windy versions, I'll be happy to send the wind shaders back to you if you do the animation upgrade. I've re-saved a windy version of each tree. :)

The only thing I found was the trees need scaled down by a factor of 10 in TG, they come in massive at 30m wide!

Redwolf

if that tree was 30m wide, the grass i added was scaled down to ohh point one in tg2...arggggh....

There are update prices from deep to deep + animation. Don't know exactly what price, but it wouldn't surprise me if it only is the $99 difference.
You can e-mail registrations at planetside.co.uk to ask, perhaps?

Scale is totally irrelevant in TG2 when you're doing still images and do no not have a workflow with other 3D packages.
All elements are scalabale to whatever size your models are.
Many of my renders have scale-settings which don't make sense, but I have never seen someone mention "hey, isn't that tree supposed to be smaller/bigger?".

For example, if your scales are too large then you can end up with a too dense atmosphere (because the scales are off).
By reducing atmosphere density you can correct this.

Nice idea, of course :)
However, the great soft feeling because of the AA would be totally lost when disabling raytracing objects for the wind effect.

Looks very realistic , Ade !
I like the trees very much too  :)

choronr

As for realism, I'd say you're at the event horizon; this is just plain fabulous.

TheBadger

Everything looks great, but the grass and ground cover is the best part, it looks so good in that light. :o And yes, try to make an animation!
It has been eaten.

Oshyan

Looks great to me too. Nice!

Animation upgrade is $119 and you can purchase it here if desired: http://www.planetside.co.uk/component/option,com_wrapper/Itemid,75/
Select "Animation Upgrade" From the dropdown. :)

Redwolf

Oshyan
