Basalt Rock Formations?

you guys should Google the anchent artificial island of Nan Madol.
this whole place was made from Basalt pillars.

It looks like they transported the columns there and built with them direclty from some images I've looked at. That would have been an impressive feat I back then...

So here's what I have so far - I'm still not happy with the image map to displace the rocks but that's easy to change. It needs some surface shaders and fake stones for detail (I'll have to get the hang of that yet) but it's coming along...

That is coming along. What size image map did you use? The edges may have jaggies from the pixel edges. I use quite large image maps when I do use them; 2500 x 2500 pixels.

The last one was 1024x1024 so I guess not high enough resolution so I doubled it for this version - I can still see those jaggies creeping in - maybe more blur on the image map?

Not happy with the POV on this version though - the columns look a bit weird over to the right.

The edges look weathered. I would continue with developing the rest of the scene. Good work!
