Got an inspiration the other day, and it's about halfway completed. The first image is the original, unaltered render, and the second one is the progress so far (well, about an hour ago).

Right now, the sky is stormy, and obviously there's a long way to go (color adjustment especially). And the transparent water illusion on the bottom has been improved as well. I do like it, and thoughts/comments/critiques are always appreciated.

Nice job so far!  I'm interested to see where this goes - I think that with some ground texture work and maybe some more detailed textures for the model, this could be a stunning image.

I agree with old_blaggard to a "T".  Nice work!
So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

Alright, here's the latest progress. I think I'm close to finishing it, just gotta add some reflections on the water in the background, and possibly do some work on the waterfalls, as well as some other minor stuff. I need suggestions on what to do next (I can always change the sky and overall lighting easily, I saved the psd seperately (I can revert back to the previous state immediately). The basic 'story' to the image is that they ship just cam out of a storm/the storm passed over them, and they found themselves at the edge of the world. Also, please let me know if it's too dark (my monitor has been adjusted, but it might still be a bit bright).

I think your monitor is too bright.  I can't see the ship.  But, wow, this is cool.  Clouds are phenomenal and I believe lightning would have less of a long and consistent length.  You'd want to have some glow to the lightning and some nearly transparent branches.  Like this - http://www.nr6ca.org/images/lightning-fl.jpg

Less on the lightning, but well placed, might be better.  Of course, this is my perspective and I don't see your final idea yet.

the lighting seems odd....

like your clouds...very nice....

hehe, you mean too bright :) The lightning is actually all real, it's in the same picture as the clouds, but I could tweak it.... And you could check out the thread I made (in TG2 Discussion) about monitor adjusting to see if it's your monitor or mine

Nah, my monitor's good.  Haven't touched it in about two years.

Just what's TG in this picture and what's from photo's?
Kevin

Oh, and it is too dark! My monitor is fine and it's hard to make out much detail.

old_blaggard

I'm on an LCD that's normally on the bright side, and this seems a little dark.  From what I can tell, though, this is an awesome image!  I can't wait for the final tweaks and lightening!

Kevin, the first picture I posted (in the original posting) is all TG, then the subsequent pictures have been photoshopped. And I will be uploading a brightened version soon

Ok, here's the lighter version! I'm on a 17" widescreen Inspiron 9300 (dell laptop, it's awesome), I'll have to check the monitor calibration things again.

old_blaggard

The red stuff in the foreground seems a bit odd to me, but otherwise, great job!

Your lack of foresight and planning does not constituted a emergency on my part.
