Hi All,

I had been struggling to master the simple shape shade, and as usual have been inspired by Ulco...the mistake I had been making (Doh) was using a Simple Shape Shade as a Colour Shader not a Displacement Shader....So having worked out that I had been a dork, I have tried again.  I lived in Somerset for many years so decided to try and convey a "Drove" (farm track bordered by bushes and Elderberry).....hope you like it!

...forgot to mention, Grasses and bushes by Walli (love his stuff) and Xfrog Elderberry....

Good that you cracked it. It's a very nice image. You can use the SSS for both (internally), or use the color to feed displacement. Lots of uses for the SSS.

Nice image , Jonathan :)

Thanks Dune and Kadri! I will experiment further :)

Good work! Maybe adding a sparse population of trees in the background would add some variety to the otherwise pristine hill. Keep it up, this is good!

That's a great idea. Have added more enviro light and removed the shrubs that were growing out of the track itself. Will add a few trees in the background....that said, the part of Somerset depicted has few trees in the fields, but there used to be elms so I will see if I can find some and put a small copse together. I don't want to lose the sun coming through the shrubs and elderberry trees so it will need some juggling. Will update and re-render in the next couple of days......

Ok guys, have made some changes as per my previous, and added a line of Poplars (can't find any elms  :() on the left to keep the tower stark on the hill. Added a couple of new shrubs and flowers and upped the enviro light. Final render here! http://browse.deviantart.com/digitalart/misc/landscapes/#/d4q3tk9
