Another road scene (old Route 66). Need to do another from a higher perspective.

FrankB's Road and Tarmac; Lightning's Saguaro models; Walli's Dry Shrubs; and, dandelO's Cirrocumulus clouds. Thanks to Inkydigit for the '66 Beetle model.

Very nice, Bob but why are the stones picking up the colour of the road? It looks really wrong.
I think it's because you have either got the stones before the road shader in your network and the colour isn't blended out where the road overlaps them OR, that you have slope constraints set in the stones layer and forgot to select 'terrain normal' as the slope key so the stones are still picking the underlying colour up.

Other than that, pretty cool!
You might rather these cirrocumulus clouds, I updated them a while back because I thought they were too harsh and the patterns a bit repetitive. Give v.2 a go, they look like this, not so sharp...

Thank you Martin, I'll download those clouds - they look very good.

After I did the color change on the rocks/roadside shoulder, I got to thinking that after the road crew in near finished, they spray an ashphaltic sealer on the road before they paint the road striping. In doing so, maybe they 'overspray' onto the shoulder a bit - helluva excuse huh?

I'll try your suggestions on this and let you know how it goes - thanks much.

Checked the items you suggested and I'm stumped. Not really sure how to get the reddish color throughout. Maybe should have left it gray/black.

Nice one, Bob. from now on it'll be roads for you I guess  ;) But where's the driver?

Thanks Ulco; yes, I'll try one more from a high perspective if I can get some decent ledges on those mountains. And, the driver is a dwarf using a periscope to see where he is going ...really, should have PhotoShopped a head behind the wheel.

Nice one, Bob! Too bad the road builders were a bit sloppy with the tar, a small blemish on a very nice terrain. They didn't care much for the environment in those days I guess.

And thank you, dandelO, for the cloud clip!

Nice scene but where's Rango? I agree that the stones need something.... j
Every problem is an opportunity, but there are so many opportunities it is a problem!

Thanks; I did try using different power fractals on each of the four sizes of fake stones in order to get more color variation; but, it didn't work out.

inkydigit

this is looking very promising, Bob, fake stones however are my bugbear, so far as surfacing/colouring go!
cheers
