I was just wondering if there was a way to spread out, or thin out the the distance between the mountains when using the alpine fractal.  (Have more flat space between mountains)

Thanks!

I would like too know fro sure too. I had thought that you could not do it. But the last time I tried to use alpine fractals I was still new to TG and probably would not of been able to make it work, Would like to try again.

I look at this link:

http://www.planetside.co.uk/wiki/index.php/Alpine_Fractal_Shader

and it gives absolutely no information on what anything does?

:(

So, the node reference / documentation isn't really complete?

No, it isn't. We are working on it though.

You might check out 'leveling low areas' by Hetzen somewhere on this forum. You'll need to do a search. I believe it is a clip file.

No, but they are working on it. I think the main problem with finishing it is that they keep making upgrades to the software. There are two upgrades coming this year, one very soon as I understand it. Also, all settings are relative to a scene, so saying emphatically that one setting will always do something, is difficult. Thats what I have been lead to believe anyway.

Are these usually free upgrades? Or do you have to pay for them?

Oshyan

All upgrades within a major version number (e.g. 2.1, 2.4, etc.) are free for owners of that version. The next version released will be 2.4, a free upgrade for owners of Terragen 2.

On the plus side, many of the features of 2.4 are already well documented. We're improving our methodology for documenting as we go, and particular thanks go to Jo for putting in the time to well document the animation features.

Thanks again Oshyan!  I am so glad I invested my money in terragen 2!  The worlds I explore through it, are incredible!

This is a highly interesting concept to me: digital explorer

When I use Terragen to make planets, or Apophysis to make nebulas, I feel as though I am discovering new worlds and wonders of the universe.

All made possible by mathematics and some silicon transistors  ;) (and Planetside!)

Oshyan

Yes, it's amazing stuff! Terragen 2 works well to tackle more limited "set"-type scenes as well as infinitely varied whole planets, but most people do seem to stick to the more limited set-type environments. I'm always glad to see more people experimenting with the full planetary scale.

in the alpine fractal shader you'll find a second tab labeled "settings". you can stretch the space between the mountains by increasing the "scale step" value. This will make your alpine mountains loose some of the erosion detail, so at the same time, you may want to try and decrease the "stretch factor" at bit. Sounds counter-intuitive, but give it a try.
That being said, this method doesn't really "only" stretch the space between mountains, it changes the entire thing somewhat. You'll see.
