Just a suggestion, it might be an idea to investigate putting a player (Say either flash based or QuickTime) on your site so that people can listen to individual tracks before they download your albums, just so people can decide weather they'd want to or not? If this is not practical due to hosting or other limitations, then never mind, just an idea.

Regards to you.

elipsis1.

Have you ever tried these plugins:

http://www.valhalladsp.com/

I do music or did until I started wasting time on TG2 (not being serrious here). I actually largely went back to hardware for a lot of stuff after using computers for a while. However, I think these Valhalla plugins are absolutely excellent for ambient stuff. The reverb is excellent and I even have a Bricast M7 here so I'm comparing them with the best there is.

thanks for that link efflux...I will check that too,

some of my current favourite softsynths/plugins:

Yeah! I got Valhalla room recently.  Incredible plugin for the price.  I also have both Aether and Breeze by 2Caudio.

That link to the spectral stuff for the mac, MAN OH MAN that stuff sounds killer sweet, and its free?

I will be playing around with that this weekend.  Killer tools! Thanks SO MUCH for sharing that link!

Valhalla plugs are awesome in my opinion especially considering the cost. Compare to Lexicon plugins which cost a fortune. Give me the Valhalla ones over Lexicon any day of the week.

elipsis1, you should get ValhallaShimmer. I think that's awesome. It's bliss on synthesizers. I haven't tried the newer one called ValhallaUberMod.

As for actual synthesizers. I'm not really a keyboard player. I play guitar but I have synths. For me, the problem with many digital synths is that they try to copy real instruments or analog synths. I think if you use digital synths (especially plugins) you need to get them to do their own thing. I've got some real analog synths here and trying to copy those digitally doesn't really compare. The problem is the cost. One fantastic second hand bargain synth is the Oberheim Matrix 1000. All Oberheim synths are awesome. Even this cheaper one is extremely good. This is cheap because it's a rack unit with presets and no editability on the rack but it has MIDI and there are MIDI apps for editing it. This brings it into a whole new territory. There are Windows apps to edit with but I haven't tried them. If you have a Mac then I can vouch for this:

This is the best synthesizer ever made. If you've got a good listening system or headphones you'll hear why. Absolutely beautiful sound. It costs £15000 for a good one though. At least that's what I saw one go for. To be honest though, this thing could be a maintenance nightmare. You'd need to be loaded with money to have this. The days of picking up cheap old analog synths are almost over but there are still a few bargains.

I've got it's little brother, a CS50. That's not even in the same league but still cool. I have two Super Basstations and a Roland Juno 106. These are bargains. However, the Roland now costs twice what I paid. I have a Dave Smith Tetra - great new synth for the cost. I also have a Moog Voyager which is not such a bargain but awesome. As for the Matrix 1000. That is such a bargain I bought two.

For digital sounds, my best instrument is in fact a Kurzweil PC3x. I use that as a master keyboard.

One of the best synth plugins if you can call it that, is Pianoteq. However, I'm a bit biased in this respect because I do music on Linux and there is a Linux Pianoteq. I just don't use Windows and I only use my Macbook to run the Valhalla plugins and BFD2 (a drum sample bank player).

All I'm saying is, computer synth plugins are cool and different sounds are achievable but there are still some bargains in old analog synths. If you have any one of these you will love it. The Dave Smith Tetra is a great new analog synth though.

CS80! Yep that was used by Vangelis a lot.  It had polyphonic aftertouch!

Very wondrous sounds for sure.

I do have the "Arturia" synth collection which has the CS80.  It gets close, but nothing beats the real analog as far as warmth and depth.

I like that video a lot :) thanks for sharing

Bladerunner is one of my favourite soundtracks. The opening track is just fantastic.

I like some of the funky sounds in your track called Even When You Say No. I will listen to some others.

The guy who did that demo on youtube of the CS80 records things really nicely. You'll hear some glorious synth sounds if you look through his channel.

The Arturia is pretty good. I've heard that. I suppose it's the only way to get close to the CS80 given the fact that it's not really viable to have the real thing.

One particular part of analog synths that digital is not too good at creating is the filters. You can buy a Moogerfooger analog filter. That's quite cool.

Digital excells at creating very rich layered and modulating ambient pad sounds because of the way you can pile stacks of things into the sound and do wierd things whereas analog synths are quite simple but they have a very luxuriant tone.
