Extreme value sometimes tend to give strange results, very intriguing. Like negative transparency  ;)

This is true. I've tried this model on several other images over the years; and, except for one other instance, I've never had an issue like this - so, I expect this was the very high enviro-light setting that caused the problem.

Good desert atmospherics.

On the unusual settings front, try negative pancake value on fake stones sometime. To paraphrase Forest Gump's mother : Terragen is like  "a box of chocolates, you never know what your going to get"
