Hi! Once again something not very typical for TG. I decided to render this in TG, because it renders high poly meshes without any problem.
I modeled this spaceship in 3ds Max, which was not very pleasing in the end phase, because Max took a lot of time to react on some parameter changes. After I imported it into TG it was a piece of cake. The finer details are created with textures, especially with opacity maps.
I don't remember where I got the plane model from. The texture maps have italian names, so Mille Grazie and credits to the creatore!!!

Like a breath of fresh air. A bit reminiscent of Battlestar Galactica (if you don't look too closely at the planes) :)

Really nice mood to this. I like it a lot.

Well done, looks like a lot of greeble work. 8)

Wow!  I really like the mood and the fact that you bring 'old' and 'new' together in a fascinating way. Great lighting as well.

Hah! Independence Day (movie) as if it happened in 1920? :D

Independence Day Prequel, without that silly Mac OS / alien computer hacking stuff
WARNING! WIZARDS! DO NOT PREDICT THE BEHAVIOR OF OTTERS UNLESS YOU OBEY BIG HAPPY TOES.

That's exactly what I was thinking - "wow, lookit all the greebles!!"

TheBadger

Bad ass! <--- just to be clear, that means  :o

Animation on this one?
It has been eaten.

Hannes

Thank you, guys!
Yes, I had ID 4 in mind, when I made that scene.
I'd love to say that I planned to use those old airplanes, but in fact I had to use them, because I had no idea how to create realistic looking smoke trails from modern jet fighters. Anyway, I like the mix of old and new too.
@TheBadger: I think there's no chance for an animation at least in that resolution. The image took about 28 hours to render. And animating the planes in TG would be very painful.

Bjur

Nice action-picture!

In my upcoming project i want to try to combine animations with Terragen landscapes/backgrounds - if my testings with TG will be succesful.
I want to stich Terragen and animated spaceships (yeah, spaceships! \o/) together in the post via Nuke.
Since newer versions of Nuke or AfterFX can deal now more or less (i´m curious) with textured 3D models and space incl. lightning and particles..

That kind of workflow may speed up such possible short animation sequences/scenes from stills with themes like yours. We´ll see it in a few months (or not). :P

Too bad, my university (Design & Media) owns a little renderfarm but dont have any licences of any terrain generating software - like TG. *shakes fist
