A quick setup for this one. Lighting it was the difficult part. I ended up using some ambient occlusion instead of global illumination. This was to lighten up the shadows and dark areas.

This is just my opinion............

Maybe add some different colored grasses in the forefront, to me the solid brown makes your bushes stand out too much. Also, maybe add some color variation to the brown of the trees across the lake.

Just my preferences.  ;D

I think it's glorious! The light thru the autumnal trees, the distant light on the far bank, the deep vista of the distant range... works for me!

It looks kinda like a HDR photo because of the difficult lighting you choose Henry.
I like especially the composition! Nice render :)

I like this lakeside scene, Henry.
Maybe there's a wee bit too much contrast between sunlit and shaded sides of near trees and bushes.
I hope I realise I don't exist before I apparently die.

Very nicely composed Henry. Did you use the soft filter here? I like the late fall appearance of the vegetation.

Everything that Zaxxon said....

Nice, I like the backlighting. The sky doesn't work that well for me though, not sure about that color of light blue, and the clouds just don't look realistic to my eye. Not entirely sure they're even necessary, they're a bit visually distracting and "busy".

Honestly I've got to go a bit more with the critiques here rather than the praises.
It's not bad at all! The problem is is that I've been spoiled with other very good works from you.

I'll try to summarize it simply by posting links to previous great works from you :)
In these works you've succesfully combined all the elements. At least in my opinion.
Good clarity, nice contrasts, good rendering, balanced lighting, balanced clouds etc. etc.

There are quite some works there I wish I would have made them!
You know I admire the sense of scale in many of your works and the simple ways you make your scene appear natural.
I don't have such a developed feeling for this. My approach is rather more technical, maybe.

Perhaps some times it's just better to keep an image on your drive and keep it your secret :)
My meager portfolio is the culmination of an extreme amount of failures.
Definitely without wanting to sound arrogant, but I'm luckily only known for the works I post, but people definitely should know better if they see the other 95-99% ;) lol

On to your next one Henry!

Cheers,
Martin

Someone likes my stuff!

The new computer has definitely help me refine my work. Thanks for the feedback. I agree about eh clouds; there's something I am not getting with them. I am working on them though. Hopefully I can give FrankB some competition soon. :)

I definitely like your work!
You can always send me tgd's or clips (clouds + camera is most useful) if you need any help or a different angle.
Seeing great TG renders is a real pleasure to me so the more others and I can help, the better :)

very much agree with xaxxon

the background tree line looks really good, plus the water reflections look pretty realistic
