I am beginning to relax a bit for my area (Binghamton). The rivers are low enough to handle the rainfall; providing it does not add up to more than six inches...

According to hurricane specialist Bryan Norcross's blog, it's worth being aware of some technicalities for warnings:

"I grant that a technical reading of the "rules" says that you can't put up a Hurricane Watch and a Coastal Flood Watch and a High Wind Watch at the same time. But I'm betting the rules didn't envision a super-mega-combo freak of a storm slamming into the most populated part of the country. When all hell is breaking loose, sometimes you've got to break a few rules to do the right thing."

My "two bits" on Sandy. WOW! We live in South Eastern Connecticut and that was the most impressive storm I have ever encountered. Even thirty miles in from Long Island Sound and trees are snapped in two everywhere. At the height of the storm I put burgers on the grill since we had been without power for about six hours already and Billy was getting hungry! Not too smart but it was exhilarating to be out in that stuff. So I am clinging to my deck railing and all around you could see the sky light up orange and blue from electrical explosions as transformers blew up and shit shorted out. I lost four trees and got power back in two days which is amazing considering last year Irene wiped out our power for eight days, and the freaky October blizzard did the same. So needless to say I was stocked up with everything 4 days before this one hit.

I really can't complain looking at the devastation on the Jersey Shore and the mess in NYC. Anyone else get beat up by this? Hey Henry you got power back yet?

We never lost power here. The storm was mostly a stiff 30 mph wind and some spattering rain. The Binghamton area of New York State came out this unscathed, except for the more anxious people who went through the Flood of 2011.

Well that is good to hear, cause boy are people a mess south of you. From what I just saw on the morning news, I would rather take another week off than to get into the madness they have created on the highways. I am off to rescue my Mother who lives near the shore. I had to wait several days for the roads to be cleared of trees. A lot of towns are still at 100% power outage and gas is scarce.

I thought the world was supposed to end in December!
