Just showing off GeoControl's erosion features with a bit of shader masking.

Looks good. I'll have to look into this program.

Forget Tuesday; It's just Monday spelled with a T

That is were it's strong point is, the erosion layers. Very convincing flows. The interface workflow is a bit odd if you can take the time out to get used to it.

Yes I agree about the erosion. I have World Machine and am able to produce some nice terrains with it, but the erosion often bothers me. It's very square and angular shaped and often results in artefacts like large straight ridges and sometimes tons of spikes.

I am releaved i am not the only one that noticed that issue. It tends not to look very natural. It is true however that World Machine can produce interesting results before erosion which it's node structure allows for a lot of play which can lead to results that are unique to the application itself. One small aspect that World Machine's erosion has over GeoControl is material sediment can build up at the bottom slopes of the erosion channels. Those nice alluvial fans and rock piles. GeoControl can do alluvial fans as well but they tend to be flat and not build tall piles, at least i have yet to achieve such effects.

I am not sure that TG2 could ever be regarded as a complete Terrain modeler without improvements to TG2's own ability to produce erosion easily. All terrain on earth that I have ever viewed shows some aspect of erosion, if not on a macro level, then on a micro. Therefore without erosion in a scene to some degree, it is not possible to say the terrain looks "real".

Having said that, Its not the most important thing to me in terms of my own efforts with TG2. But I do look forward to the time when TG2 is really a complete Terrain solution.

Good looking image Chris.
It has been eaten.

Until we have that erosion procedurally, there always is a need for third party solutions. I honestly do not have an issue with that myself because unless you want to do a massive bird's eye view panoramic vista or low orbit render, there is little need for it i tend to think. However, furthering the Alpine Shader features would be neat.
