Hi Gang!

Here's one I've been playing with for 2 weeks now and I'm sick of looking at it.  So Thought I might as well share it. Time to move on to something else, so much to learn.

Terrain is of course Mt. Saint Helen's 4097 from Oshyan, thanks Man! A Very detailed terrain.

Great Render Buzzzzz.

Just as a side note the trees you used are about the size that were blown into Spirit Lake when Mt Saint Helens blew in 1980 (about 10 million board feet) most of the trees that have grown since then are only 15 to 20 feet tall. It was 27 years ago and it still looks pretty bare today. It is nice that we can give the area some life again if only in the virtual world.

I love those trees by the way, may have to but some.

Whooo, lovely rendering! The variations in the trees comes out very good and i love the subtle fog between them. Nice low clouds / mist / fog.

As stated above I love this image, and this could be what it looks like in 75 years.

Here is some reference site that show before and after and some current conditions at Mt Saint Helens. The south side of the mountain is for the most part unchanged. But the north side (the famous side) is vastly different.

I know that it may seem that I am harping on nit-picky things, and I don't want to step on artistic license. It's just that I have been there allot, it is almost in my back yard (40 miles away).

Yeah I looked at many many reference pictures before and during putting this together and do realize the trees are much larger then they are in current times. However smaller trees didn't achieve the look I was after. Not that I made it but I was trying more for a well balanced Artistic Scene rather than the way the area looks today. However I do appreciate your comments and taking the time find the reference Images.

Glad you took the current condition into considertation and the lack of vegatation on the other side of the lake does in fact show that.
You do have a fine piece here, worthy of being hung on a wall in a fine wooden frame. Keep up the great work.

I will be glad to offer suggestions when we finally get to see it. . I am sure it to will be a masterpiece.

I too have been mulling over in my mind the best way to portray the rugged beauty of the mountain and Spirit Lake with its log jams. So someday you may see one from me.

OMG, this is brilliant.  Excellent lighting, fantastic background, excellent use of trees, great use of clouds above and for steam below, and very good POV.  Great work!

I do especially like the atmosphere and the clouds, which are fantastic, and very realistic!
I also like the foreground, however compared the photorealistic feel of the rest of the image, the trees have a noticably flatter look to them. Perhaps the trees would be the #1 reason why anybody could suspect this is CG.

I'm wondering, if a little reflections on the needles would help.

But anyway, one of the best images I've seen for a while now. Congratulations.
