A cold winter scene. As usual the fake stones have driven me nuts! The terrain has been made with voronoi and perlin noise blended with a powerfractal then stepped and abused with redirects and warps. Thanks to efflux for his work on stepped terrains. Walli for his plants. The tree came from a mesh found on the web fern3d spooky tree which I had to re uv and texture in Silo and pass though poseray. snow started from a snow pack by Dandelo but has been much modified though I suspect not with much improvement.

Some nice contrasting elements in this.

One question. How did you do the river bank? Is that with a step? If so, it's exactly one purpose to use that technique even if that is the only step.

mhaze

The river is a warped simple shape shader with edge profile set to smooth step and width to just under half the width of the river. I'm not sure if it could be easily done with a step would be a good technique though -  have to think more about it.

I'd like add thanks for all your post they certainly make me think and try harder.

Cheers

OK. I was wondering about it because to create a river shape might be quite difficult just with a step because it would be relying on the fractal shape. Finding a river looking area might just be luck in exploration to find the right shape. From past experience I've found that using voronoi for at least part of the terrain can create networks of what looks like rivers (although the are all joined) but ideally we'd have an actual voronoi fractal for that rather than a noise function.

Very cool! There is a wonderful mix of whimsy and realism in this somehow. I like.

Beautiful.

I like the flow of curves. The snow looks chunky and soft. And the composition feels balanced. Some great techniques. Displacing the strata with that gradual PF works well. The overall reflectivity gives it that 'fairy tale' look.

I agree. For some reason I thought of a "nightmare before christmas" but live action. This has a unique feel to it.
It has been eaten.

Nice looking river bank and snow. Great lighting too.

This is one of those images that pull you into it. Great job!

Cheers  ;D I was thinking I might try a summer version of this.
