matching planet scale and position to imported sphere

So I have an imported sphere and camera from maya. I have scaled the camera to 10 and the obj to .1
This seems approx right for a standard size planet in Terragen.
Now I need to somehow match my planet to this sphere..
It lost coordinate data when exported, so there are no numbers to match to. Doing this by eye is feeling impossible.. what are my options? is there any way to snap the bounding boxes of two objects?

thanks.

I would suggest finding out what scaling Maya uses. Terragen uses meters for pretty much everything. If Maya works in e.g. centimeters, you would have an easy way to accurately convert measurements. That kind of thing has to be documented somewhere...

the scaling is ok. i can get everything to match up to my maya render with the imported geo - the problem lies in trying to line up a terragen planet oblect with my imported object. because it was supplied baked out, my imported object doesn't hold that info anymore. so i need to somehow line them up inside terragen. moving the planet object..

Oh, are you talking about positioning, not scaling? In that case, if the object's center is at the center of the planet/sphere, and scaling already matches, you can just use the same position values, copy/paste from the xyz coordinates in the respective object node settings. To the right of the coordinate boxes is a button that has copy/paste functions.

^^ yes, this is what I do too.

Just place a terragen planet in the sky where you want it ("objects"->planet-> click in the sky where you want it to be placed-> follow Oshyan's instructions)

Now import your .obj planet/moon and paste the coordinates from the TG planet object to your .obj. And delete the "plant02" object. Done

Ghoulgirl,
Please share in image sharing or TG discussion about your work between maya and TG. It is a important subject to me, and I would be very glad to hear more people talk about workflows between maya and TG. It can be difficult in some situations and I would like the opportunity to learn from other Maya users.

If you dont want to, or just can't thats ok too.

cheers, and welcome to the forums

[edit] Ahh, I should say that the reason I use the planet02 object first is because it is easier for me to deal with that, than my own models. So I just use that for position and such, and then copy the info data to my object.
It has been eaten.
