Hi,

Do you know yet what the difference is going to be with an object .FBX for T2, compared to Maya?
I mean, will it be the same (FBX is FBX), or Is it something that programers can change? For example, if I saved a rigged creature as .FBX, will T2 be able to open and display properly even though I couldn't effect the rigging? Or would the rigging be excluded, or it just wont open?
Rigging is just the example, but any difference I would like to know about.

What is planetsides goal for next release (spring, summer, fall?) And do you anticipate that object FBX will be included?

I am sure you hate these questions about dates and stuff and I think I can understand it. But still...

Thanks

Hi Michael,

We do have plans for supporting FBX object import. For rigged objects you'd be able to import the object but not edit the rig.

I will probably be starting on FBX object import fairly soon. I can't really give any details about what would be supported until I've been able to spend some time on it. FBX is a complex format so initially the import might be a bit limited compared to everything FBX supports. I can definitely say you won't be able to edit rigs, but some level of animation import will be supported.

I'm not going to say anything about dates, just thought I would say something about FBX because I'm responsible for it.

Regards,

Jo

Thank you jo.

Its interesting because I have seen, or been made aware of, conversions software makes to fbx and obj while saving them out. For example the thread i posted about multi-UV tiles. Where matt indicated that terragen could not read those tiles, and that maya or mudbox did something to the files as they were created and converted to obj in order that they could be opened in Tg at all.

So I was just trying to understand more about this. And also try to plan a workflow for a project that will demonstrate all that I have been learning in one go, and if and how I will use T2 in that workflow. That last part is why i was asking about dates.
Mostly Im just looking for better integration of the software I use, and fbx looks like it will help a lot. At least make things a little easier.

If you need any testers for anything your doing, I volunteer. Could only help me to understand better.
