Ya, I think the Caribou could outrun a grizzly, but those bears are no slouches.  A male can reach speeds of 30 mph and run a hundred yards in 6 seconds!

I have never seen a land animal do something like that before. Its really a good video. Its not hard to watch except the one bird is screaming! And that makes it a little sad. But a rare sight for sure!

I viewed a video of a pack of wolves going after a heard of Caribou the other day. It was not long before the wolves isolated a calf.
The calf was already faster than the wolves. And the narrator said if the calf could make it one mile without loosing its footing, than the wolves would give up. But the calf stumbled and the pursuer took him.

It was really hard to watch because the wolf had no intentions of doing a quick kill.
After the wolf stopped the calf, the calf submitted. And the wolf just stood over the calf waiting for his pack.
And I thought to my self, there it is! That's evolution... Not just the science, but the only practical application of the knowledge by man... Feed on the weak.

I don't understand what the Caribou was trying to do. It didn't seem like the Grizzly was even being that agressive to begin with. Maybe the grizzlies just wanted to get at the water to catch fish or something. What exactly was that Caribou trying to defend?

I'd bet that somewhere not far away was a caribou calf, and the adult was simply attacking what it perceived as a threat to the calf.  Futile, perhaps, but I'm not sure it's stupid.

Probably because the grizzly would have to get by the adult first to get to the calf.   And the adult was having none of that.

I thought it was a little strange that the bear picked a fight with two cubs by her side. The Caribou was rather large and healthy looking next to the grizzly... those antlers can be vicious.
