First of all I would like to say hello to the Terragen community! I did not see any "official" place for presentations so I will put it here. My name is Bernardo and I am a freelance 3d graphic. I have always been fashinated by terragen but never really got deep in it. With this new release I wanted to give it a stronger try, so here I am to take the best out of it!

The program looks really great, thought in my opinion there is a bit of lack of documentation. I found some tutorial and example files on the forum but honestly is not something really solid to build a proper knowledge of the program. I also saw this http://3dartdirect.com/oops-this-content-is-members-only/. Did someone had a look at it? What do you think of it?

Now a more concrete question. I was having a look at the`crack based canyon file which I found here http://www.planetside.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,4484.15.html.

I wanted to study the way the terrain is built up but got stucked at the very beginning. After the first fractal terrain there is a layer which was renamed to Tile Profile which I cannot understand what is. It looks like it has the options of a surface shader, but I was not able to add such a shader in the terrain section... could give me some help with this please? I am using the free version of terragen 3.

Another thing. I saw that there are also the *.tgc files. I think they are some kind of library for terragen, but how can I open them in the program?

Thank you very much for any help, I hope I did not make too many questions at once! :D

Welcome to this forum, Bernardo. This place to present yourself is fine, and we hope to see more of you. You'll find this a very helpful community, especially if you ask specific questions there's always someone about to help you out. Did you see this page: http://planetside.co.uk/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page Lots of information there.
It's best to study that and have a go at simple landscapes to start with. The crack based canyon might be a little too difficult if you just start.
TGC files are clipfiles, parts of a line of nodes that perform certain aspects of terrain building, whether in displacement or color or both. You can save combinations as tgc's and import tgc's. But I suggest leaving that to later as well, just start very basic to get to grips with the workflow.

Hello Dune, thanks for your answer!

In general I prefer tutorial (I know I am a bit lazy :D ) but I think that you are right, the manual is a good way to study! So I will follow your advice and start from there. Anyway I am sure I will have some more question, so I won't be far for long! :)
