First of all I would like to say hello to the Terragen community! I did not see any "official" place for presentations so I will put it here. My name is Bernardo and I am a freelance 3d graphic. I have always been fashinated by terragen but never really got deep in it. With this new release I wanted to give it a stronger try, so here I am to take the best out of it!
The program looks really great, thought in my opinion there is a bit of lack of documentation. I found some tutorial and example files on the forum but honestly is not something really solid to build a proper knowledge of the program. I also saw this

Now a more concrete question. I was having a look at the`crack based canyon file which I found here
http://www.planetside.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,4484.15.html.I wanted to study the way the terrain is built up but got stucked at the very beginning. After the first fractal terrain there is a layer which was renamed to Tile Profile which I cannot understand what is. It looks like it has the options of a surface shader, but I was not able to add such a shader in the terrain section... could give me some help with this please? I am using the free version of terragen 3.
Another thing. I saw that there are also the *.tgc files. I think they are some kind of library for terragen, but how can I open them in the program?
