Some of you may remember this from nearly three years ago :)

Well I said I'd finish it and finally here it is. Not much hass changed about the terrain but the pov in altered, the atmosphere is cloud only (ie no atmosphere node at all) and of course there is a new "structure" holding it all  together.

26 hour render so I'm not re-doing it but C&C is always very welcome :)

I like this a lot....................just want to walk down and explore.  ;D

Very nice image Richard.
I would prefer it without DOF more.

I loved the book and I think you have captured it in a superb manner. This is what I envisioned while reading the book....excellent work!

masonspappy

Beautiful by human or Kzinti standards  ;)

Dune

I love it. I know how much work this is to get together! Tremendous piece of art.
But if you want C&C: there's a straight edge to a cloud somewhere behind that tower, which is a bit strange. And I would have done without the light gray/white patches on the hills. Looks like snow in gullies, but might be 'unrealistic' (haha) in a ringworld.

cyphyr

You're right about the cloud cut off. It was a royal pain/headache getting them to work at all and I think I just got lazy! Because there is no visible planet, the clouds are attached to an invisible planet, their upside down and all their settings are inverted (well most of them, it's confusing). I may see if I can paint/clone something in.

Actually this scene was finished about 6 weeks ago and I sent it to render when I went on holiday with daft render settings, (detail 0.8, AA 8) and after 10 days it had only got about half way through! Dropping it to detail 0.7 AA 5 and it finished in just over a day. A salutary lesson.

Cheers

Impressive achievement!
There is one thing though that's really putting me off somehow, both foreground trees
on the left, especially the lighter one.The texture looks blurred, but the outline is extremely
sharp.Looks almost like a billboard trunk or so.Very distracting,to me at least.

Your right JM, I hadn't noticed that, fixed now and I also took the opportunity to fix the "flat" cloud behind the tower.
Hope this one is better :)

Amazing - book-cover or poster-quality - I love that river in the background

You do great fantasy work, Richard. I always enjoy it.

I did not read every post this time. But one thing that bothers me is the little building/tower. Its throwing off my sense of scale/distance.

For me, it needs other buildings closer to camera, and further away. Then my eyes wont strain.
It has been eaten.

Upon Infinity

Well, somebody's showing off, aren't they? </Jealous>

I'd be quite interested to know how you did that river.  Come to think of it, how you do the landscape?  Good stuff, though.

looks much better blown up, nice work
