dynamic Terrain sculpt

Whatever happened to that feature of Terragen? It was in an early version and was sort of the hallmark of the product, that you could literally use the mouse to sculpt terrain... Now with everything being procedural, it seems that the only way to get a terrain of a specific design is to export it somehow, go into photoshop, create new grayscale bumps and valleys, and import it back in somehow...

Will that other feature ever come back in some form?

Probably yes. We plan to explore some ideas for sculpting and other direct manipulation tools in future. Already in TG2 and TG3 you can use a painted shader plugged into a displacement map, but without live feedback and some other limitations it's not a good workflow for sculpting yet.

hell yeah, the dream worflow would be something like voxel sculpting to handle complex shapes, combined with 3D erosion filter.
Finally you can keep terragen procedural for the fine details.

I've been doing the sculpt in classic and then using it as a heightfield load.
Not elegant--but - works :D
