OK, here goes, my very first proper picture from Terragen. Just using the basics - the stuff I have learnt so far.

Appreciate comments and suggestions as to how the pic might be improved. It's a direct output from TG3, nothing post at this stage. I do have half a plan to add a spaceship or two but not 100% decided yet.

Cheers

Over all I like it, the composition and moody lighting work well.  What lets it down is the foreground.

The middle distance is a little bland but this may be what you intended and is not incompatible with adding detail to the foreground.  Work on the surface, add some detail, displacements to break up those bumps or add a population of alien plants or something to hide them a little.

It's a good start that you could take in many directions.

Thanks for the comments, agree with you about the foreground, definitely the weakest link, I'll see to it :)

For me it is the opposite .I like the foreground more.
The 2 last far hills are too spiky. Reminds me about old time renders...

I was kind of going for the other worldy look - so the unusual geological features in the hills were intended,  ok, let me have a play! Thanks for the comments.

Nice first attempt.  Great sense of depth here

Made a few changes, and added the compulsory spaceship which I modelled in modo.

Actually quite pleased with it overall, this is the kind of thing I had hoped to achieve with Terragen and am strating to see the real power behind the TG interface. I know it's not up to the standard of work here but given that I have only used some basic nodes I am quite impressed with what TG can do!

Lot to learn of course! Anyway, on to the next project! Thanks for the comments.

Mr_Lamppost

I like the changes, adding the objects to the foreground has given it a sense of scale.  Probably not worth the trouble if you are moving on to another project but I would increase the emission value of the material on the engines of the ship.

Cheers, thanks for everyone's comments too.

Oh, as Sci-Fi fan I've overseen this beautiful one also..!

Your scene is cool SteveR, in lots of aspects, i rly love the add of the spaceship.

But watch out your framing for the things which are important to your scene.
Most of the things which makes your picture interesting or giving main impacts are jammed left, right and on top, they need more "room" or "air to breathe" .

Zoom out a little, tilt your cam a slight bit up and see yourself..

Thanks Bjur, really appreciate the suggestions  - I will have a play at the weekend hopefully and try out some of your ideas. I guess I was quite focused on drwing the eye to the big structure at the back, poss destination for the ship maybe. Had a couple of suggestions on DeviantArt which said it might have been good to make the big structure stand out more with some specific lighting or possibly some window lighting - good ideas them all - as I said on dA, I need to think this stuff through some more :)

Many thanks for your comments :)
