Very nice. But my first read was difficult. Clouds in the mid ground seem too flat. Didn't know if it was cloud, snow or sand.

Icegrip

Nice scene so far! Is this a real DEM?

Gannaingh

Thanks everybody. Since the clouds seem to have been more popular in the first two images, I'll look at recreating that effect again ;)

Icegrip: This is indeed a real DEM, four of them actually. You can see where two of them come together along the right side of the image on one of the near mountains. I need to remember to align those properly.

The lighting on the clouds is tricky. I think having changed elevation of the sun to get the early morning feel is preventing from getting the same depth of shadows in the cloud layers that was present in the earlier images. I might have to reset the sun elevation and just change the sunlight color to give it the morning feel.

This has a great photographic feel to it.

You have good light coverage, both right and left ...this one is the best.

Oshyan

Odd, I would think a lower sun angle would give you *more* "depth", shadows, etc. in the clouds...

Well, I don't know what I did, but I'm now getting the amount of shadow from the first images. I've copied the cloud layers from the previous version into the new file, even though they were identical in every way, and it did the job. Weird.

Here's a crop render of the lower half of the picture withe clouds looking all fluffy and pretty. Getting the background clouds to look how I want them could take a little time.

Gannaingh

Here's the full view with the puffy clouds. I want to decrease the number of small puffy clouds in the background, but overall I'm pretty happy with who it's turning out.

choronr

Good refinements, this is turning out beautifully.

gregtee

This would be a great piece for a flyover animation.

Here's the final, nice and big to better capture the details. I like how it has turned out.

LOVE the lower left hand side! THat ground/terrain/tree cover is great. On the lower/mid right hand side, those outcrops look sweet.
