I am not able to correct this look of imported smooth normal objects (obj).
Here a Default-Sphere as example.

and here with smooth normals unchecked

Note that only the shadow area is influenced, so there seems something to be wrong with global illumination.

You just need more polygons on the imported sphere to correct
that look.

The jagged shadows along the terminator can only be improved by using a sphere with more subdivisions. But the render also shows some problems completely inside the shadow - visible grid lines aligned with the polygon edges. They would probably also be improved by increasing the sphere subdivisions, but it looks like there is a problem here with GI that we should fix anyway.

Just because milk is white doesn't mean that clouds are made of milk.

To be more specific, it's probably an issue with GI Surface Details. You can disable that and still get the benefits of GI.

It is indeed a Problem with GI Surface Details.

GISD on:

GISD off:

Population_GISD on (The effect is hard to see on most objects, espacially with this high compressed jpg the forum creates)
[attachimg=3]

So the solution is to turn off GISD if the polygon-grid becomes visible.
