They could work as matte backgrounds for Sci-Fi or Fantasy stills/illustrations but also for some live action footage maybe..

http://skul4aface.blogspot.de/ The cool city like pictures could work well when masked/prepared with the projection technic onto simple 3D models with the shape of those "buildings".
Give them some lightning, some particles, add in a flying ship or somewhat and it should be done, even for some fine short animations..

How many time does it needs to render such a 2000x1125 pix picture? What CPU are you using if I may ask?
