I seem to recall a conversation I skimmed over in the recent past where someone was asking about udating objects. Well I regularilly edit outside of TG2 and 3 and have had unqualified success simply reloading the object on top of itself.....even with a replacement iteration if the first one was too wrong...the name stays the same in the dialogue and water(glass) shaders stay attached as do alpha channels. I guess I'm posting this to say thanks for this undocumented feature....much appreciated...

I'm glad you appreciate it. If material assignments don't change, it should be safe to reload the OBJ after making changes to the geometry. This is intentional, although somewhat controversial as to whether we should recommend this as a good way to work. You might not always know for sure that the materials assignment haven't changed, but I suppose it depends how you're editing your OBJ and how the materials are set up.

Heh heh heh, well after that post it started not working all that well but I suspect it had something to do with the number of Parts shaders in the object (a huge house very detailed), but the autos I was playing with worked well.

Yeah, in Terragen the different Parts objects represent different material assignments in the OBJ, or sometimes different geometry groups, depending on how the OBJ is structured. So if they change you'll have problems.
