Hi,

I'm trying to add Xfrog plants to my landscapes in Terragen. The trouble is they always look too dark . Is there a way to add more variation of colour and light to them?

I have attached a photo of a terrain I'm working on made in World Machine (I'm still fairly new to this)   :)

I've always had to resurface them in Terragen.  They aren't well calibrated to terragens default lighting values.

If your plants are OBJ's then I would suggest loading them into your modeler (such as Lightwave's) and adjust the surface properties such as increasing diffuse reflection.

If it's just a diffuse color issue, you can increase the Diffuse Color lightness in the Default Shader that loads the image map. It will affect the texture map lightness. Also, if you're using population color variation, be aware that you should use the Diffuse Colour Multiplier to avoid darkening of your plants, set it to 2 or 3 as a start and adjust to your preference.

When you get the colour the way you want it, you might want to think about saving them as .tgo's so you don't have to do it for every scene.

Which version of Terragen do you use and where from did you get this tree model?

I am using TG2 (2.4 or something precisely?  :-\) and I never had such problems nor did I have to resurface the plants.

My rule of thumb - I always try to use objects in tgo. or obj. formats. Most of the time I try to download them from trusted sources like XFrog (has some freebies) or Terragen.org.

I experienced similar problem when I tried to put custom-made objects in my scene that someone else created. When I did, I usually got entirely black models of trees, houses and other stuff.

Thanks for the advice, I will experiment tonight.

N-drju - I am using Terragen 3 and the plant is Tamarind tgo from the Xfrog website.
