An encounter in the desert.................

Hannes

Great idea! Maybe the distribution of the grass could be a bit more irregular.
May I ask you where that horse model is from? The mane seems to have a transparency map, right?

yossam

I wasn't happy with the grass pops............. :(

I been watching the progress of the model for about the last 3 months...........good job of modeling. The mane, tail, fetlocks, and forelocks all have trans maps.

Hannes

This is a really fantastic horse model! Thanks for the link. How do the transparency maps work in TG? As far as I know there's no falloff, just black and white?!

Something else: I realized that the cactii may be a little big too large compared to the horse? I may be wrong since the cactii you can see here (most likely in a market garden) are barely higher than 30cm :).

yossam

The trans maps go in the opacity slot and really work pretty well.............you could always use Dunes' trick and decimate the opacity.

The cacti are Giant Saguaro...........they can get over 20 meters in height.  :o

Thanks for the the link, lots of interesting and reasonably priced models. Browsed thru the site gallery; seemed like every image that caught my eye was one of your's, some I recognized from the TG forum, some were new to me, all very beautiful. "Fright", I can really empathize with that poor snake being terrified by that big scary horse, outrageous!  ;) Another well crafted piece Yossam!

Hannes

Ah, I see. Thanks for your reply.

Nice one Richard. Regarding the grass clumps, they might look better as dry. Change their color to something a little darker than the sandy surface.

yossam

Changed the POV a little bit, re-did the grass pops, etc.

yossam

Hivewire is a very good site for "good" affordable models. I think they were started by some old DAZ employees. The community is almost as good as this one...................almost.  ;D

choronr

Looking real good. Kind of reminds me of the Hohokam Indian community near my home on the Gila River reservation in an area called Wild Horse Pass.

Hannes

Yes, that's it. Now if you'd put in a small localised sand coloured cloud where the horse is, to create sand blown up by the hooves (or is it hoofs?) it might look even more dynamic.

choronr

Agree with that one Hannes.

yossam

Put a little dust under the horsey............... :)
