Dune

WIP, first setup. I'd like to make some sort of Grand Canyon idea... one day. No rapids yet. And while I'm here; this is one of the black storks I made for the Stone Age project.

I love the 1st set up of this picture. You got a very strong and beautiful base to work on :D
And that bird is very nice :)

Makes me want to go up north and see it again ...very good Ulco. I think the reddish color of the rock needs to be darkened a bit.

Upon Infinity

Looks good, but...I'm not telling you anything you don't already know.

mhaze

looking forward to seeing where this goes.

Dune

But what? I don't know what I know...

Here's different setup.

2nd image is a bit more appealing (from a realism perspective). Foliage is smaller, browner, not quite so dominant.  More in line with that kind of terrain.
And it is a darn good image  :)

This is looking great! I love that combination of both vertical and horizontal grooves in the rock - must learn how to do that. There are a number of other places here in AZ where this is prevalent which are not in canyon situations. The one place is in the 'Boulders' area of north Scottsdale where the rock color is different than you have here.

To produce the horizontal/vertical groove look, is it a combination of two voronoi in opposite directions? mhaze also has this in his 'Torrent' image.

zaxxon

"Monumental" to say the least! Damn, I need to learn how to do this. Great terrain Dune,

Dune

It's quite simple; just stretch one voronoi horizontally and make it a bit larger and/or harder, and the other vertically. And best is to use a few sizes of blue node voronoi. Yes, kind of the same as Mick's. You can best use his setup (which I haven't).

mhaze

Actually, sometimes I use both methods and many instances at different sizes and rotations.

Spectacular rocks! And the bird is great, too.
