Google Earth, Photoscan and Terragen

I want to share my experiment. It allows sodavat model natural terrain. Here I took the example of Utah, Arches National Park, coordinates 38 ° 41'59.04 "N, 109 ° 33'13.56" W. For this I used Google Erth, program FotoSkan Agisoft whose site http: //www.agisoft.ru. There you can download a free 30-day trial. In the program Google Erth I "circled" the object at an angle of around making at regular intervals PrtScr in quantity of 45 pieces. Next, I uploaded these pictures in the program PhotoScan and processed them there by the proposed method. And then export the model in the format of Obj. with the texture of the images constructed. Places texture has blur, but it's the lack of the original. You can try to select objects with a higher quality texture mapping in Google Erth. Hope I did not violate anyone's rights, especially as the model remained inscription Google, it is not visible in the frame, below left. Interesting experiment, Oleg. The road works pretty good. The texture on the hills could be improved by adding power fractal textures.

Have been the Arches National Park hiking in Moab, Utah several times over the years and must say, this would be a Terragineer's Paradise for creative inspirations.

This is indeed an interesting experiment, but higher quality DEM data is available for all of the US and most of the world, along with high resolution satellite or aerial imagery. So better results should be achievable with less work and time. But as an experiment is interesting, and reminds me of the work Aerometrex does for their animations:

If you have a unique source of photo/video data where no good DEMs exist, it is a worthwhile technique.

Had a check of the GlobalMapper data sources, and indeed...  NAIP 1m colour imagery for US :)

Shadows are a bit dense, so some editing of the TIF may be in order, but this is 10m DEM and NAIP imagery at 2m/px...  Back to the story board for my animation ;)
