I thought it would be helpful to try to keep all inspiration and reference imagery under a single topic. So for future inspiration image, video, or music links, just post a reply to this thread.

Here are a few to get things started!

Video:

This is a realistic and largely unglamorized time lapse view of Iceland. Colors seem fairly true-to-life (though I would guess there is some enhancement, at least in a few scenes, a bit of saturation added here and there for example) and a variety of locations and textures are explored. Particularly interesting and useful are a couple of zoom shots, showing a range of scales and distances of a single location. This may be *the* video to watch if you had to pick just one:

A fantastic winter time lapse exploration of Iceland mostly showcasing some amazing aurora footage (apparently resulting from an X-class solar flare!). The ice cave footage is also stunning, and lets me remember how incredible that experience was (probably my favorite of the trip I took). The aurora really gets crazy around the halfway mark:

A rather nice video of one couple's trip to Iceland. It starts out a little slow, but it has a really good variety of imagery, and more natural colors than many photos you see:

Note: waterfalls do *not* flow upward in Iceland. ;)

Here is a gallery of a friend's photos from our trip earlier in 2014 to Iceland:

And my own gallery from that trip, Part 1 and 2 of 3 (part 3 to be posted within a couple weeks, hopefully in time to inspire you further! :D ):

Feel free to ask me any questions you have in that thread, and I'll update it when I add Part 3 to the gallery.

And finally, something posted on the forums back in June of this year that is all the more interesting and relevant now:

Music:

Last but not least, musical inspiration might also be fun. Of Monsters and Men are a great Icelandic band that I enjoy: https://www.youtube.com/user/MonstersAndMen
But Sigur Ros (another Icelandic band) might capture the place a bit more in sound, if that makes sense:

Feel free to post your inspirations and reference links in reply!

A very long video, but an excellent piece of information. Thank you Michael.

I put off looking up this info because I new it would make me sad. But my brain would not shut up and I had to look. And sure enough...
Best trout fishing in the world.

A quirky but interesting video with some nice, accurately-colored (i.e. not terribly exaggerated) imagery of Iceland. It picks up around the half-way mark:

Looking very nice Oshyan, thanks for sharing. Looks like the clowns were having a good time.

For anyone looking to recreate aurora, this is a great reference (all time-lapse):

Keep in mind these are long exposures to gather that much light at night. :D

Iceland sure does look inviting in the summer time. I need to go back when it's not freezing! :D

Check it out with a smooth jazz soundtrack. ;)

Thanks for sharing Oshyan, this is beautiful.

Nice video with lots of deep winter shots, for anyone interested in doing a really snowy/icy version of Iceland:
https://vimeo.com/77730331
It's a nice mix of "hero" shots (big waterfalls, mountains, sunrise/sunset, timelapse, etc.) and more normal stuff where you see more average environments and "in-between" places. So, a good reference video I think.

Another video from the same people as above. This is the one I saw originally and wanted to post, but it wasn't available in HD on Vimeo. YouTube for the win on this one, apparently. Stunning video!
