This is pretty cool, is this at twilight? The ground is soo dark.

Also, is this range of clouds so different in tone due to the sun? If so, why is the terrain so dark?

My guess is it's exposed for the clouds, thus darkening everything else, and the patch you're looking at there is sun reflection, broken up by heavy current fluctuation near land in that intersection of 3 land masses (or by clouds, possibly).
